Rho Chapter - West Virginia University
Tau Kappa Epsilon

Chapter History

On January 1, 1923, twenty-seven men came together and were granted a charter to join what has become the greatest fraternity in the world. West Virginia University is now home to the seventeenth chapter, Rho chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon.

Rho chapter began as the Avena Club, meeting Wednesdays on the second floor of Oglebay Hall. From there, our esteemed Rho chapter forefathers landed in a house on 698 North High Street, adjacent to the current house. As some things do not last forever, the house was demolished and our founding fathers decided to move in next door at 692 North High Street.

After nearly 60 years at WVU the chapter took short break off campus, but our Alumni remained strong and Rho Teke was able to recolonize in 1983. The chapter officially settled at 206 Grant Street in Sunnyside after recolonization and gained strength quickly. In a long road home, the TKE house moved from 750 College Ave. to 459 Dallas Street (a.k.a. "The Red Relaxer") to 308 2nd Street.

In 1995, the chapter was able to return home and settled back in at 692 North High street and remains there to this day.
